Il coltello è un oggetto che usiamo solitamente in cucina, strumento funzionale all’atto del cibarsi e alla preparazione degli alimenti. Dal suo impiego in cucina sino al suo utilizzo come arma; le vicissitudini di un coltello sono infinite. Questo progetto intende alterare la funzione di uno dei primi utensili creati dall’uomo innescando una riflessione sulla molteplicità di conseguenze che ogni gesto può avere. Un’arma a doppio taglio che incide, ferisce, affonda la propria lama nella carne, ma non solo quella della vittima, anche nel carnefice. Una sagoma perfetta che rimanda all’immagine riconosciuta del coltello ma che nasconde un’anima affilata in tutta la sua forma. Un oggetto ‘responsabile’ che per essere impugnato richiede coraggio e consapevolezza; siamo davvero pronti a farci carico delle conseguenze di questa disfunzione?

A knife is an object that since the beginning of human existence was used as a weapon and in most cases was associated with the procurement of food. Nowadays knives are mainly used in the kitchen environment where there is still a strong association with the element of slaughter -even though people tend to forget that. This project alters the primary function of a standardized object creating instead an object of reflection. This ‘Perfect Knife’ is an object which cuts, perforates and injures the flesh of both the ‘prey’ and the ‘predator’. The sharp edge is everywhere around the rim of the knife while its flat shape obliges the user to hold it in a manner which assures his own injury. A perfect form of an archetypal knife, which embodies the forms of all knives in one. A responsible object which in order to be used requires courage and awareness. The question though is whether we are ready to take in our hands such a ‘dysfunctional’ object.
